Your passport is due for renewal a year before the expiry date. You should have a valid reason to renew your passport now like change in signature, change in name, adding spouse name, exhausting passport pages, change in appearance etc. Otherwise your passport will be treated as Damaged.

There are some airlines like Singapore Airlines, Air Asia, Malaysian Airlines etc basically routed through Singapore and Malaysia are a bit strict for 6 months passport validity which is in compliance with ICAO guidelines. If you are going through Air India or via Bangkok, Hong Kong there should not be any issue as what we have seen in the past- the Indian immigration does not create any issue so long as the passport is valid(even less than six months). So basically in your case (Since passport is valid for less than six months) we can advise not to travel through Singapore, Malaysia. Now while coming back to Australia, Australian immigration does not have any issue with less than six month validity so long as you have a valid visa/PR. It is always recommended to renew your passport to avoid any inconvenience at the time of traveling.

OCI is always linked with your Australian Passport. The regulation regarding renewal of OCI is- 1. It is mandatory to renew an OCI card every time you get a new passport upto the age of 20. 2. It does not matter how many times you renew your passport between 20-50 it is not mandatory to renew the OCI however if someone would like to renew one can apply for OCI renewal or you can travel with an old passport. 3. After the age of 50 at least once to be applied for renewal of OCI. There is no such validity marked on the PCC. It depends on the user department/employer how latest they need. Generally the employer/organisation asks for PCC not older than six months.
